Sanskrit Library Phonetic Basic - Devanagari Unicode correspondence table
The Sanskrit Library Phonetic Basic – Devanagari Unicode correspondence table indicates the usage of characters added to the Unicode Standard version 5.2 in the fall of 2009 for the proper representation of Vedic texts. Most of the characters occur in the Devanagari Extended and Vedic Extension blocks, though a few were added to the Devanagari block. Different characters are used for to indicate the same phonetics in different traditions. The characters used in each tradition are listed in the column proper to that tradition as indicated by the abbreviations explained by the key below. The left hand column of the table indicates the corresponding Sanskrit Library Phonetic encoding. The phonetics of the Sanskrit Library Phonetic encoding are explained in detail in Scharf and Hyman 2010 (Scharf, Peter and Malcolm Hyman. 2010. Linguistic Issues in Encoding Sanskrit. Providence: The Sanskrit Library.), particularly in Appendix B, and also in Appendix C, where the corresponding symbol in the International Phonetic Alphabet is also given.

A dot (bindu) is used before other consonants instead of the homorganic nasal. In YVM, the anusvāra appears before y, v, and l as well. In YVT, the double candrabindu is used before r or a spirant conjoined with another consonant, and a double length anusvāra, indicated in writing by the ordinary candrabindu virāma, is used before a consonant followed by vocalic r.
